Commission a Portrait in Los Angeles

Few things are as timeless and iconic as a painted portrait.  For gifts, commemorating special occasions or memorials, I hold your hand through some of life’s most tender moments.

Anniversary Portraits

The gift that will take their breath away

How do you say “thank you” to the person who brightens your whole life?  I can help.

Anniversaries are some of the most popular occasions that bring people to me to commission portraits.  Capturing your togetherness, in a way that conveys your unique vibe as a couple.

Memorial Portraits

Hold on to loved ones, even after they’ve passed.

Loss and grief are so deeply painful and so little talked about in our society.

When I lost my dad, I was suddenly hit with a sense of powerlessness and a fear of simply existing I’d never known before.  As  I started to climb out of the hole that my grief had tossed me in, I started painting portraits that attempted to capture the spirit of some of my loved ones, living and beyond.  I found a way to connect to the spirit of a person through art, even if their physical presence wasn’t around anymore.

Memorial portraits are the most emotional work I do. Working with a sensitive portrait painter, you can recruit my help to metabolize the feelings of loss, and bring that longed for presence around you again.

“I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an artist.”

Pet Portraits

Don’t you just want your fur babies around all the time?

Pet portraits are such a fun way to capture the personalities of some of our favorite friends.  Gift pet portrait recipients have been known to scream expletives in delight upon opening their presents.

Los Angeles Portrait Painting FAQs

How does the process work?

Ooh, let me walk you through it!

1. First, We talk about it

I want to hear all of your ideas.  I’ll ask you to send me your reference photo, and we’ll talk about style, rendering, and what the intended effect of the final portrait is.  I want to know about the people (or pets!) in the photos, and

2. We decide on style
I paint portraits in a few different styles.  I’ll make recommendations based on the information I have available in your reference photo, and the vibe you want the finished painting to have.

3. I send you photos for feedback
as the painting is nearing completion. We have up to two rounds of revisions to get everything dialed in just right.

4. I seal the painting to last for generations
(if the painting is in oil paints, this varnish step is necessary.  If we decide on an acrylic-painted style, varnishing isn’t needed or recommendd).

5. The painting makes its way to you
Whether you’re local to LA and we to a hand-off over tea in my studio, or I package it up and ship it cross country to you, the painting will soon be in its forever home.

Can I commission a portrait if I'm not in LA?

You bet!

I consider myself a Los Angeles portrait painter, and have my studio in the beach side community of Santa Monica… but safe packaging and shipping is easy, nationwide!

How long have you been doing this?

I’m a third generation hobby artist, and my childhood is filled with memories of sketching lessons at grandpa’s house, and doing paint-by-numbers with mom in the backyard.   For me, art has been synonymous with nurturing care for over 40 years.

I moved into painting murals professionally in 2017, and gradually expanded my offerings to include live event painting and portraits in the subsequent years.

How long does this take?

Best to assume it will be a couple months.

There is often a waitlist for studio projects, and portraits are often done with oil paints, which have weeks of drying and varnishing time.

If you need a faster turnaround, let’s talk about it.  Expediting processing may be available for purchase.

How much does it cost to commission a portrait painting?

Price is based on size and number of subjects. (and whether they’re humans or fur babies).

Pets range $350 – $1400

Human portaits range $550 – $2800

I'm on a tight budget. What's your most affordable option?

You might prefer a charcoal drawing as a lower-investment alternative to a painting.  I offer 5″x 7″ inch drawings for $350.
