Long Beach’s Hidden Gem, Through a Painter’s Eye!
As a live wedding painter, I’m always on the lookout for venues that just sing to me – places where the light, the atmosphere, and the architecture harmonize like a symphony. Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach is a hidden gem that fits that bill.
From the moment I arrive, in their spacious and easy parking lot, surrounded by lush green golf course views, my creativity bubbles with the rustic historical vibes. The beautiful ceremony lawn, with its romantic gazebo, feels like stepping into a painting before I even begin.

Fun fact: I learned on my last visit that the lawn there is grown over a packed sand foundation, which creates a more stable and even footing that traditional lawns. You could even switch it up as some do and do ceremony indoors and reception outdoors to take advantage of dancing on the lawn on fresh summer evenings.

Stepping into the reception hall, the artistic opportunities continue to unfold. The exposed wood ceilings and formidable chandeliers create an incredible warmth and texture that my brushstrokes adore. The entire reception scene hums with warm wood tones, providing a rich, inviting backdrop. The regal warmth of the fireplace adds such a cozy, elegant depth – a painter’s delight for capturing those intimate celebrations.
Having painted at Recreation Park now, I can genuinely say it’s not just a stunning venue, but also a joy to work with. Before all the celebration, Recreation Park couples (and their bridal parties) appreciate the two thoughtfully appointed get-ready rooms. With their expansive mirrors and glamorous lighting, these spaces are perfectly set for all the beauty preparations, ensuring everyone feels relaxed and picture-perfect as their day begins.

Their couples I’ve spoken to also tell me that the option to bring your own caterers is a huge advantage for those with a specific culinary vision. Once dinner is served, the buffet traffic flow is remarkably well-designed. Guests can effortlessly move from the dance floor, through one entrance to gather their selections, and then smoothly exit through another door back to their tables. This thoughtful setup ensures a delightful dining experience without any inconvenient bottlenecking.
